BEHIND EVERY "I DO": WEDDING PLANNING ACCORDING TO IRENE RACCA

A wedding is much more than a simple event: it is a project built on emotions, details, and choices that contribute to making one of the most important days in a couple's life truly unique. Behind every detail and every moment perfectly orchestrated lies a great deal of organization, creativity, and attention to detail. In this interview, Irene takes us behind the scenes of the wedding planning world, telling us what it means to approach the organization of a bespoke wedding and what the fundamental elements are to transform a couple's dream into reality.

Everything you don't know about the perfect day

The first thing that strikes me about Irene is her exuberance.

It is something immediately perceptible, even just through the way she talks about her work during our conversation: there is never a flat answer, never a "descriptive" tone in the cold sense of the word. Every passage communicates and possesses energy and involvement, almost as if she were reliving each wedding all over again as she describes it to us. And this, even before getting into the details of the interview, already says a lot about the type of professional she is.

In fact, when I ask her what it means to her to be a couple's choice, her response immediately elevates the level of the conversation. "It is a privilege," she states, "because it is a choice they make from the heart... the wedding planner is one of the few vendors chosen in an empathetic way." In these words, everything is already there: her commitment lies in maintaining a relationship that goes beyond organization. During the journey together, she aims, in fact, to establish a relationship of trust that goes beyond the technical and organizational role.

And it is precisely here that the common perception of a wedding is completely overturned. Externally, it looks like a linear structure made of location, catering, dress, flowers, and photographer: an apparently simple sequence of manageable features. Irene, however, clarifies immediately that this is simply the visible part, while everything that truly makes a wedding successful lies in between, in a dense architecture of tiny details, coordinations, and interlocking pieces that are often underestimated, but make everything work. A large part of her work lies in this sort of wedding magic wand, because on the wedding day, what the guests perceive as fluid and natural is actually the result of a continuous directing.

When I ask her how one manages to maintain control and the big picture on such an intense day, the answer is clear: "with experience you can learn and improve, but if you don't have problem-solving skills or you are a person who gets overtaken by anxiety, it is impossible to do it." If we think about it, though, the interesting thing is precisely this: the ability to transform that disastrous unexpected event into what makes it even more special. Even if the guests experience the day as a natural sequence of perfect moments, behind the scenes there is a continuous work made of decisions and constant adaptations, always with the goal of never breaking the experience.

Subsequently, the interview drifts towards another quite current topic: external influences. Pinterest, Instagram, trends, images saved everywhere, and ideas coming from different contexts, often without a clear meeting point. Irene talks about it with great lucidity and positivity: her job is never to impose a style, but rather to help find the right one. "My job is a bit like cleaning up," she says, "to understand what is truly theirs and what instead is just external influence."

At this point, the wedding transforms into something much deeper than an aesthetic choice: it becomes a process of identity built over time. Sometimes, however, during this journey, a moment comes that can be considered a revelation. Irene herself tells us that: "there are brides who find the dress right away, and in that moment, I already see the whole wedding."
Another aspect that particularly fascinated me and makes her approach even more interesting is her background as an architect, which brings with it a design-oriented and concrete vein. We talk about emotion and aesthetics, but also about space, measurements, and structures. "We make floor plans, renders, we study everything down to the centimeter," she says, and the wedding also becomes a precise construction, where every choice has a real impact on the overall experience.

And then there is a part of her way of working that perhaps explains her vision even better: inspiration. Irene tells me that everything for her is a source of inspiration, travels, movies, or florists. "I see very beautiful things, I take them, remodel them, and use them for my couples," she confides naturally. It is a continuous process of observation and reinterpretation, which transforms these external stimuli into something new and personal for each wedding.

Finally, to my question about what the characteristic that truly distinguishes her is, Irene has no doubts, and focuses immediately on problem solving: "my fundamental goal is for the couple to be happy." Therefore, it is inevitably about creating a beautiful wedding, but above all about reaching something deeper, their real happiness. "It's not for the portfolio," she specifies, "it is precisely my goal." Also fundamental is the work of her team, often invisible but indispensable: an organized structure that follows every phase of the event, while in the eyes of the guests everything seems to simply flow. And perhaps this is the most important point: what is seen is only the surface. Behind it, there is a continuous and silent work that makes each couple's happiness a reality.
